Blurb: Sequel to A Matter of Time I & II
Jory Harcourt doesn't have to go looking for trouble. Wherever he goes, it seems to find him—particularly when his partner, Sam Kage, is working undercover on a federal task force.
After the recession forces him to close his business, Jory goes to work as a matchmaker and event planner. From there, it's only a matter of time before his big mouth and up-front attitude make him the rope in a tug-of-war between a trust fund baby and a drug-smuggling criminal. Then, as if that situation weren't delicate enough, Jory's undercover lover shows up working for the smuggler.
Between the men who want him and the men who just want him dead, Chicago is getting a little crowded for Jory, so on the advice of his brother, his boyfriend, and the FBI task force, he heads for Hawaii... where a serious accident threatens his quality of life. Can Sam and Jory keep the faith and prove that their relationship really is bulletproof?
Reviewed by Stacey: This is book #5 of the A Matter of Time Series by Mary Calmes and it was just as good as the first 4 books. Jory is just as scattered and adorable as he always is, and Sam is just as sexy and stable as he has been for Jory in the first books. Here we begin with Jory and Sam having gone to Canada and gotten married. My biggest dissapointment, and I hate to start a review out with a complaint, was the fact that Sam isn't in this book for quite a bit of the story, as he's off on an undercover investigation, leaving Jory to fend for himself. As anyone who has read the first four books knows, Jory is terrible at fending for himself. He is a trouble magnet!
Jory's business went under with the recession so he finds himself working for a matchmaker/redecorating firm where his big mouth quickly gets him in trouble. He soon finds himself wrapped up with local criminals, who at first are charming, but things soon turn dark and sinister when Jory doesn't return the criminal's love interest. It seems that everyone is wanting a piece of Jory but all he wants is for Sam to come home, but he has no idea where Sam is.
Sam does eventually make is way into the story when Jory stumbles across him undercover a couple of times at parties while out with different guys, which affords us with some down and dirty sex. You know, what we've become accustomed to with these two... very hot!
Jory gets to save the day in regard to Sam's investigation and as things settle down and come to a close, Sam sends Jory to Hawaii ahead of him to wait for his arrival. Jory ends up running into his ex, which creates the usual additional antics and stressors for Jory. Jory bounces around Hawaii by himself, fending off his ex and dealing with the others who are interested until Sam finally shows up and we get more Jory/Sam action... yes, very hot! But, like with all of these books, things do not stay happy and simple for long. The bad guys show up and Jory is very badly hurt in the get-way. Fortunately, we are still able to get a sweet HEA and the boys are now planning their future together and their family, while both of them have changed/reorganized their careers.
This latest installment to the series was just as good as the previous four. Jory has done some growing up in this one. He acknowledges his age in this one and is very much ready to settle down and be a grown up now. He's still just as scattered as he ever was but if he wasn't, it wouldn't be the Jory we know and love. Sam is Sam; strong, sexy, protective and totally devoted to Jory. This is not a stand alone book. Characters from previous books are brought in with references made to other characters in previous books. You will be at a loss without reading the previous books. Overall, this was quirky, fun, had really hot sex, and was nearly impossible to put down. Great lead into the next book. I can't wait to see what happens next.
A+
