Length: Short Story
Requested
Blurb: Charles is an average gay man, full of hope for finding a boyfriend he can call his own, but he's riddled with insecurities about his weight. When he meets a hottie named Terry at a local bar in the gay Mecca of New York City, he's surprised and pleased at the sudden attention.
But Terry has an ulterior motive in hooking up with Charles, one which has nothing to do with sex.
Reviewed by Stacey Jo: I didn't know what to think of this book the first time I read it. It's short, and can be read in ten minutes or less. I'll say that it's not for the faint at heart. I found it to be brutal and disturbing and even a bit upsetting. As I was first reading it, I thought to myself, I don't think I like this story very much, but I kept reading and then the story took a turn and I thought, well, maybe I do like this, in a weird and disturbing sort of way. Having said that, you may wonder if I really liked the book or not, and the short answer would be ultimately, yes, I did. The story is dark and is basically one of a gay bashing that is briefly described, which, in and of itself, the subject matter alone is heart breaking.

Charles is overweight and insecure but is picked up by Terry, an extremely hot Latino guy at a bar. Charles is suspicious as to why Terry would seek him out, but he goes with it. It's not long before things go really bad. There is a bit of a twist in the story at that point that makes it quite a bit interesting. I think though to tell you would ruin the story. It makes for a good ending though and really helped turn the story around for me.
I had to step back at the end though as the message at the end was a bit strong, the stand up force the world into submission bit was a bit harsh, despite my staunch support of the GLBT community. After reading the story and then that hook at the end, I felt a bit overwhelmed. Needless to say, it was a pretty powerful story, and I actually waited a couple of days before I even wrote a review because I felt like I needed to digest it. It was just that intense. But it's good, just be forewarned, and don't go into it light hearted.
